Sowega.net provides static IP addresses to all Sowega customers
(dial-up and broadband). Please contact with Sales/Billing for
the price and availability.
- What are IP addresses?
IP addresses are numeric addresses that uniquely identify
your computer(s) on the Internet.
- What does "static" mean?
These IP addresses are called static because the same numeric
address is always associated with the same computer. When you
connect to Sowega.net through a dial-up or broadband connection
without using static IP addresses, you are dynamically assigned
a numeric IP address which is used for the duration of the
connection from a shared IP address pool. Since everyone does not
connect at the same time, this allows more efficient use of the
limited pool of IP addresses.
- Why might you need a static IP address?
Static IP addresses allow you to do web hosting locally at your home
or business. You can also use them to remotely access your computers
over the Internet (for example, telnet or FTP). Like permanent mailing
address, the static IP address is exclusively used by you.
