How to enable Outlook Express SMTP Authentication

  • Open your Outlook Express program.
  • Click on the "Tools" menu selection (1).
  • Select "Accounts…" from the drop-down menu (2).

  • From the "Internet Accounts" Window that opens, click the "Mail" tab at the top of the selection window (3).
  • Select the Sowega.Net account in the selection window (It will probably say either sowega.net or pop.sowega.net) by clicking on the account name in the window. This will highlight the account (4).
  • Click the "Properties" button that is to the right side of the Internet Accounts window. This will open up the properties window (5).

  • Select the "Servers" tab at the top of the properties window (6).

  • Close to the bottom of the Server Properties window you will see a selection that says "My server requires authentication". Click to place a check in front of that option. (If a check is already there, you were already authenticating to send e-mail. Make sure that you leave the check in this option, don’t clear it out.) (7)
  • Now click "Apply" (8) then click "OK" (9). This will close the "Properties" Window and will return you to the Internet Accounts window.

  • Now click "Close" on the bottom right hand side of that window. This will close the ‘Accounts’ window and you are finished!!
