Quad A @ Americus Blue Tide

The joining of the two primary swimming teams in the South Georgia Region, Americus Blue Tide (ABT) and Flint River Rapids (FRR) marks a return to the vision that coaching legend Kirt Myers had for Southwest Georgia Swimming. Americus Blue Tide will join with the Flint River Rapids to become: Americus Albany Area Aquatics or Quad A. The name, Quad A, stands as a testament to the mission of our founder, Dr. Kirt Myers as representative of the highest levels of achievement possible in USA-Swimming where swimmers strive to achieve AAAA times to mark their excellence of performance. In addition Southwest Georgia’s premier team will remain a family concern with both coaches, Jeff and Tim DeMott remaining as co-coaches of the Quad A program. Quad A at ABT will continue to be led by Tim DeMott while Quad A at Albany will be led by Jeff DeMott.

Competitive Swimming

Quad-A and Americus Blue Tide is member club of USA-Swimming. Americus Albany Area Aquatics represents the greater Sumter/Lee County/Albany Area in competitions on the local, regional and national levels.

Building Lifelong Skills

Our goal is to develop exceptional people while providing opportunities for our athletes to compete among the very best. Quad-A@ABT believes the greatest lessons and experiences that the sport has to offer come through the pursuit of excellence. Quad-A offers a unique opportunity for self improvement though competitive swimming. Swimming is a full body workout that challenges your mind and helps develop lasting, positive habits for life.

Quad-A @ ABT: A Complete Swimming Program

Lessons: Non-swimmers begin to learn the fundamentals of swimming and water safety.

Waves: (Tuesdays 5-5:30) Swimmers 4 to 6 years old who are swimming short distances with their faces in the water. Swimmers begin learning the competitive strokes.

Nova: (M, W, Th 5-5:30) Beginning swimmers at least 6 years old who can swim 25 yards. Workouts are designed to emphasize stroke development and fun.

Junior 1: (M-Th 4-5:00) Entry level swimmers who are becoming proficient in all strokes. Emphasis is on refining techniques in strokes, starts, and turns.

Junior 2: (M-Th 4:45-6) Intermediate level swimmers. Training program is designed to continue stroke development and begin aerobic development.

Senior: (M-Th 5:00-7, plus mornings & Sat) Elite and/or senior swimmers. An advanced training group with the ultimate goal of success at the State, Regional, and National levels. Workouts use the most advanced training and stroke techniques including an extensive dry-land program. Masters: (M, W, F 5:30-7 a.m.) Adult swimmers encompassing a wide range of abilities and goals have an opportunity to improve their swimming skills, fitness level and enjoy training with a group of their peers.

 

Swimming Pool

Quad-A @ ABT trains and practices at the GSW Deriso Pool located Simmons St in Americus on the campus of Georgia Southwestern State University.

Coaches

Tim DeMott, Head Coach and CEO, has been with the Blue Tide since 1997. Tim is a 1991 graduate of Iowa State University where he swam sprint freestyle for the Cyclones and was selected to the All-Conference Academic Team. He is an ASCA level 4 certified coach and has been teaching swimming for more than two decades.

Harriett Peak is the Age Group coach, and has been with the Blue Tide since 1985. With her energetic and enthusiastic instruction, she has helped guide the development of many successful ABT members during her tenure.

All our coaches are currently certified through the American Swimming Coaches Association (ASCA) and regularly participate in professional training opportunities. Our sta is dedicated to providing members with quality instruction based on sound principles and the most recent techniques and training methods.
